MEETING of August 12th, 2015

  The meeting was well attended.

Discussion on AQS show.
All aprons now handed in after members took some home to create the pockets.
Sign up on volunteer spot has been slow.
We discussed whether we would be able to continue to be able to guild that spearheads the volunteer activities for the AQS Quiltweek 2016, - & as I will be out of the country a lot next year, & with our guild being so small, there was no one able or willing to do this.  I will try to find people outside of our guild to take on this responsibility.

In my absence in the coming year, members will work out how the guild is to evolve to meet their needs as a guild.

The prize of a Quilting Calculator was won by Betty Warren.

Ronald McDonald challenge, - Denise reported on this.  We are delaying the showing of completed quilts til the November meeting, - so bring them in complete to that meeting for judging & prizes to be won.
If you happened to receive a marble type red fabric in your challenge bag, Vicky reports that this does bleed.

Grand Oak Retreat is reported as being wonderful by an attendee.

The National Quilt Museum has accepted Lauren's quilt, & this will be on show between Aug 20th & Nov 20th.

UFO program
Many of us have not been able to get these done, but some are still doing well.
Betty has 2 more blocks completed.

Lauren has been busy getting her 6 Ronald McDonald quilts done.

So we lined then up to be photographed.

Josie completed one of the "Donna" kits.

And this person hid, - so I can't remember what this one was about.

SHOW & TELL.
Lauren's Murder Mystery quilt.

I'm loving this, but whose is it?

Debbie used a Bi Level foot to do the binding on this QOV.

And who owns this Murder Mystery Quilt?

 Another 2 without owners!

Cindye made this beautiful bag.

As Cindye is no longer working, she has been cleaning up & organizing her sewing room.  This is an example of they way she did this.  Photos of the completed room were also shared.  Wonderful job.

Denise is making these drain holders for the mastectomy patients at the Mary Ellen Locker Center.  After surgery the ladies come home with between 2 & 4 drains, & Denise devised this better method for them to deal with this.

When does Kathleen get time to do all this?  Maybe her house renovations are now complete?

Using the stamping method of template pattern.

Beverly's cute little felted wool pillow.

A nice one by Anna.

It was good to see Linda again, & what a lovely quilt for Isabella.

Christmas tree skirt by Linda.

Our Opportunity Quilt.  This one shows the wonderful job Rhonda did of the quilting.

Vicky & Judy led the group that created this wonderful quilt for us.  Some lucky person will take it home after Quiltweek.

If you have friends that would like to own this quilt, they can give you their donation for you to put their name in.

A wonderful find by Vicky to store sewing notions.

2 beautiful bags by Vicky.  Or is this one bag with different sides.  My memory is blocking!

And Vicky's lovely top was also made by her.

Vicky's notion mug, - great idea.

Vicky was sure busy this past month!

Gail's new gadget, - binding winder.

Gail made this for a friend to put her very old bible in.

An old grandmothers garden that demonstrated how they used to leave out the corners for the bedposts, - but I missed them in the photo.

PROGRAM.
Folded star Potholder/Stand.   Sharon did a wonderful job with this program.

Starting with 10" square muslin, with drawn lines from corner to corner, & horizontally across the middle & vertically down the middle.

4 fat quarters, cut 4"x3", 16 of each. sort in the order you want them placed.  These are 1/4" pressed under on one 4" side.

Mark the middle of first rectangle & place in middle of muslin, folded edge uppermost & down.

Place the next chosen color 1/2" under first.

Place 3rd chosen color 1/4" down.

Place all subsequent rectangles 1/4" down from one another.  Mark the center line & sew down this line to secure all rectangles.  Repeat all the above steps on all 4 edges.

You then repeat these steps on all the corner lines, folding the already sewn sections out of the way.

Now the folding starts.  Fold a corner section & a middle section onto itself.  Take the first color on the right hand stack, & fold it down as in picture above & below.

Fold it a 2nd time.

Now lay it flat as in above photo.

Repeat the above with the first color of the left hand side.

Lay it flat & partially covering the other, shown above.

Take the second color, but only do ONE fold before laying it flat.

Repeat with the left side.

Continue in this manner till all are folder on top of one another.

It should look like this.  Below where the last color intersects, place stay stitching.

This is one awaiting the finishing touch of covering the corners.  With the color I decided to make mine, I cut a 6" square in half, pressed under 1/4" on the bias edge.  Placed it in the corner so it covered to the points of the star, pinned in place right side up, than fine dot glued the 1/4" seam to the star.  I then turned it wrong side up & sewed the seam on the fold.
Now, this far too pretty when finished to hold pots!!  Mine is on the wall cheering me up?

Thank you Sharon for a wonderful program.
Also thanks to the ladies that provided refreshments for us to socialize with.

NEXT MEETING:  SEPT 9th, 2015.
