MEETING OF FEBRUARY 11th, 2015

A fun meeting with good attendance.

Hexies were handed in for the Opportunity quilt, & I was the only one that admitted to doing a dimensional one!!  Was I really the only one??

Kathleen is working on programs & received some ideas today.  Don't forget to email Kathleen if you have a program that you would like to share with the group, or if there is a program that you need.  We want to give programs that are applicable to the needs of the group.

Denise's color choices were no surprise!
Closeup of quilting done with walking foot on dsm.
There were 2 quilts made that will be for display at Hamilton Place Mall on March 21st for the Stitch in the Mall event.  Lauren would like those that are participating in this even to please email her with what you are planning on doing.
Lauren's quilt.

PROGRAM.
Zippered Wristlet or Pouch.
Written instructions were emailed to members this morning.
Start with this.

Pieces are ready

Starting the zipper

Getting ready for the other side of zipper.

And now it is finished, - just waiting for you to decide how to use it.

If you do not want to use the regular type of zipper available in local stores, there is a Quilters Zipper on the website http://www.orangepeel.cc/zipperindex.htm

Ronald Mc Donald quilts handed to Denise.
UFO program started.  For those that have not started yet but still want to participate, bring your list of 10 next month for Gayle.  Keep a list at home for yourself, & when you bring to guild for show, remember what number this is on the list.

Show & Tell is always fun.

Betty is working on blocks for another quilt.

This was a test pattern for Fran & she donated it to Ronald McD.  I love it!

Pam finished this lovely one.

This UFO of Fran's should keep her going for many years to come!

UFOs being worked on.

Another tablerunner by CeeCee.  All her friends & family are enjoying these.

Showing another little handy purse.

Beverly has a strippy quilt in progress, being sewn on deli paper.

This is going to take Kathleen a fair while before we see this finished project!

Josie's Quilt of Valor that she made on their sewing Saturday last month.

Betty worked on this as a UFO all last year, & here is the finished project, ready for the lucky recipient.

Whale fabric on the back, & the big guy on the front, with dsm quilting lines resembling water motion.  Lovely job Pam.

Fran with a QOV she made after checking the design with the previous test one about 12 photos above.

This QOV has floating stars, - great for group project when points tend to get cut off.

Wall quilt for son to match the quilt on the bed.

QOV

And the back of the above on with leftover blocks.

Vicky with her pillow.

My grandson asked me to make him a Sarah & Duck quilt, but as he'd just been given a Spiderman one for Christmas, I opted to make a placemat.  Sarah & Duck visit the Everglades.  They'll need to fly over from Britain, ha ha.

A wonderful piece of fabric, no need for cutting or any fancy quilting.  I just stitched along the lines to stabilize the wool batting,  Molly will be able to drag this around & it will have no problem with all the washing.

And what meeting is complete without refreshments!  Thank you ladies for a lovely spread, which we enjoyed as we socialized.

MEETING JANUARY 2015

We enjoyed a fun meeting with good attendance.  Everyone keen to get going after the holiday season.
A few decisions were made as to how the meeting is run.
We decided that after we dealt with any business, we would then have our program.
So the order of our meeting will now be:
Business.
Program
UFO
Charity hand in
Show & Tell
Refreshments & Socializing.

We decided by vote that we would have a simple business card made & that members can all carry some with them, so when they meet an interested person they may give them our information.  If they so desire, they may also write their own name & phone on the back.  This card will only give our blogsite for people to gain more information about us.  Sharon will attend to this.
Beverly H agreed to relieve Lauren of the Treasurer position, & Denise will continue to maintain the Membership list & deliver Ronald McDonald quilts to the House.
Gayle will be running the UFO program, so bring your list of 10 to her at Feb meeting.  Keep a list for yourself so you know what number item you complete each month.  This makes her record keeping easier.
Thank you all who volunteer for us in these positions, & thanks to those that volunteer for refreshments.

Program facilitator will be Kathleen McM.  We will continue to have programs that are pertinent to the needs of our members, given by members with occasional visitors.  There will be no paid teachers.  If you are willing to teach a program, let Kathleen know what it is that you can do.
Helen will start us in February by giving a program on "how to teach".

The Opportunity Quilt planning is coming along nicely.  Hexagons were taken by members willing to complete same.
Judy gave us a demonstration as to how we should make these.
The product used as the template.

Judy's stitching technique.

The finished Hexie.  Not quite flat, but this is prior to pressing.

Judy's preferred needles.

A completed hexie after pressing.

Kits made up ready for members.

Judy's preferred glue.

PROGRAM:  A sewing product used differently than its' intended purpose.
First I shared that I use my broken sewing machine needles & hammer them into the wall to hang my rulers.  This was husband approved, as the paint will just fill the holes when no longer needed.

Then we went to a program that I had seen on Missouri Star Quilting & just had to share.
BINDING RULER STAR.
The ruler

The four sections of the star.  Made from Jelly Roll strips.
